Hello, Colleagues:
Freelance court interpreters in Minnesota were receiving $50 p/h in 1997, i.e., about $95 in today’s economy after adjusting for inflation. The Minnesota Judicial Branch increased interpreter pay to $65 p/h in January 2024, but accepting that would be to settle for less buying power than in the 1990s. Therefore, Minnesota freelance interpreters are on strike.
How can you help the Minnesota freelance court interpreters in receiving increased wages?
- Please do not accept any assignments from the Minnesota courts (in-person, video or telephone).
- Please make a donation to the freelance court interpreters in Minnesota so they can continue to strike against a powerful institution that can play the waiting game. I made a $1,000 donation here: https://workingpartnerships.betterworld.org/campaigns/interpreters But even just $10 will help.
- Please share this information with your professional contacts.
This is not a scam or phishing email. For those of you who do not know me, you can verify my contact information in the ATA and NAJIT directories. Thank you in advance for your support!
In solidarity,
